I used to move around a lot when I was little, and that constant motion has perpetuated this overwhelming, all-consuming case of wanderlust. Luckily my family feels the same way. My first big trip out of the country was on a family vacation to the Galápagos Islands. I was 13 at the time and definitely in the midst of my most awkward stage. All the photos from that trip feature a frizzy head, gap tooth little human with absolutely no clue how lucky she was to be standing on the soil that Charles Darwin walked upon while researching.

The Galápagos Islands is a must-see for anyone who loves animals, being outdoors or traveling. It is by far one of the most beautiful places I have ever been and has a lot to teach a person.
I remember the breathtaking landscape of rocky beaches and multiple islands with crystal blue water. I remember the sheer amount of animals and how unique and strange they looked. Yes, the Blue-Footed Boobies were remarkable and swimming with sea lions remains a highlight of the trip. Yet, it was one night, boating back from an island to our ship, that is my earliest memory of encountering awe.

I have never seen so many stars in my entire life. It was a blanket of stars. The calmness of the water and the light from the moon made me stop. I didn't think. I didn't talk. I just watched the sky and the stars.
There are times, even today when I become overwhelmed at the multitude of tasks on my to-do list, when I look back at that moment in the Pacific Ocean. I remember the peace I felt and try to relive it. It's the calm, safe place I go to when I'm stressed. Go. Go. Go to the Galápagos. If you ever want to feel small and appreciate the vast amount of beatuy in the world that is the place to be. You are on a sacred piece of ecosystem that continues to mystify and awe others. I honestly cannot stress it enough.
